Photoshop Tutorial

The assignment was to find a cool tutorial for Adobe Photoshop. I looked through a lot of tutorials and saw this one, Photoshop Tutorial. It shows you how to turn a normal photo into a mystical, dreamy effect.

It's a simple task and it's fun to play around with. This is a great tutorial that can help a photo or anything seem surreal or mystical. Check out this site for more tutorials--->Tutorials

Optical Toys - Thaumatrope

Thaumatrope was one of the first optical toys that have been invented. The purpose of this toy was to provide entertainment. John A. Paris had invented this in 1825. Thaumatrope was also known as "Turning Marvel" and " Wonder Turner".

The site made for this topic is very plain and boring. It's white and black. When I first saw this site, I thought that it was very plain and didn't catch my attention. It would be more exciting to look at if they used different colours and maybe a pattern or design to express what the sites about. Although, the information given was clear and thorough. It had great information about the different devices like: who it was made by, why it was made and how it works.

The toy I liked was the one you see above called "Thaumatrope".  This toy is created by a disk, two strings attached to it and drawings on the disk. It works by you pulling the strings and it creates the drawings as if they were on top of each other.

My Photoshop Trial

This is my Photoshop trial. The purpose of this assignment was to get to know the basics of using Photoshop. It was a lot of fun to do and learn about.

The first thing I did was to figure out what I was going to do it on. I chose to do it on a girl walking on a rainbow. It's pretty surreal. I found a photo of a rainbow by a beach. It's a nice scenery aswell. That photo became my backround. The next thing I did was find a photo of a girl walking. The girl walking became my second layer. I found a photo but I had to take out the backround. So to do this I used the Magic Wand tool. This tool easily takes out pieces of a photo by simply clicking wherever you click. It was a very easy and simple tool to use. I also used the Quick Selection tool to get the small pieces out of the photo.

Overall this process was easy and I look forward to using Photoshop more often. I also look forward to creating more detailed photos using this awesome program. Hoped you enjoyed! :)

My Chess Piece

This is my chess piece that I drew for my CyberARTS class. My chess piece had to have a sense of movement, pattern and value in the back round and the chess piece itself. The assignment also included a point of view so where you were looking at chess piece from. My point of view or angle was eye level. The chess piece had light on the right, shadow in the middle, a small amount of light on the right side and a bit of shadow on the very right.

The assignment as I said before needs to include a sense of movement and pattern in the back round. I think the piece shows movement because it leads your eye from the bottom to the top. I also did the swirly lines in a way that it brings your eyes to the main focus, the chess piece. Pattern in my back round is the repetition of swirly lines. It repeats four times and has different variety of length and value in the lines. I think the value in the swirly type of lines creates a nice variety of value with shades of lights and darks. For the variety of value I used a HB, 2B & 6B pencil.

Overall I'm happy with the outcome and I think it illustrates realistic characteristics in the chess piece itself like the value. I think I could have done better with the value and try and make the different values blend in better. Hope you enjoyed my art! :)
